Virginia Renaissance Faire
Revelry and celebration are the royal orders of the day at the Fourth Annual Virginia Renaissance Faire in Fredericksburg. Cheer armored knights on charging steeds as they do battle in the "Armoured Joust on Horseback," get down and dirty with the "Sturdy Beggars Mud Show," watch majestic falcons, eagles and hawks take flight at the "Falcon Show," feast on hearty food and drink and shop the Artist's Market. Enjoy the adventures in a 16th century theme park against the backdrop of Sherwood Forest's scenic lake, Tudor-style marketplace and woodlands.
The faire opens Saturday and runs weekends through June 13. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday-Sunday and Memorial Day. Faire location is Staffordshire of Sherwood Forest, 1175 Kings Highway. May Day Fairie Festival
Celebrate the return of the Earth's abundance in spring and the impending bounty of summer Saturday at the 8th Annual May Day Fairie Festival at Spoutwood Farm in Glen Rock, Pa. Events throughout the day include Maypole dancing to bagpipes, fairie wand and garland making, gnome and elf tours, a fairie tea party, puppet shows, fairie people food, blessings of the fairies, fairie tales and storytelling and a petting zoo.
Hours for the festival are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The rain date is Sunday. Parking is at Susquehannock High School, Fissel's Church Road, off Route 216 -- a short shuttle from the festival site. Admission is $5. Call 717-235-6610.
