A car struck and killed an 18-year-old Laurel pedestrian early yesterday in an accident on U.S. 1 near the Prince George's County line, Howard County police said.

Shannon M. Christian of the 100 block of Washington Blvd. was hit by a 1992 Dodge Dynasty about 12: 30 a.m., police said. She was walking in the northbound lane of U.S. 1, the driver of the car told police.

Motorist Jeanette M. Gavel, 46, of the 9000 block of Cissell Ave., Laurel, was not injured and has not been charged, police said. The accident is under investigation by Cpl. Karen Johnson of the Traffic Enforcement Section of the Howard Police Department.
