The Hatton-Regester Green next to the B&A; Trail Park in Severna Park will be dedicated May 2 with the help of Anne Arundel County Executive Janet S. Owens.

The 1.5-acre green at the Old Severna Park railroad station is the culmination of more than two years of work by the Friends of the B&A; Trail Park, which designed it, got it approved by the county and raised the money to pay for it.

The organization is turning over the green with its tree-shaded pathway, thematic gardens, gazebo and water garden to the superintendent of the B&A; Trail Park.

But the 200-member Friends of the B&A; Trail Park, with the support of the Hollyberry, Moonflower and Severn River Garden Clubs and Severna Flowers and Gifts, will maintain the gardens they have created.

A number of federal officials are expected at the dedication, including Harriet Mayor Fulbright, executive director of the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities.

The Friends group will unveil the green's brick terrace entrance from the trail, which includes more than 100 bricks paid for by supporters of the park. A granite marker in the middle of the terrace entrance is engraved with the names of individuals and organizations that made the project a reality.

The group also will kick off the Planet Walk, its latest program to improve the trail. The idea is to reproduce the 6-billion-mile solar system along 4.5 miles of trail. Each of the planets and the sun would be placed at its proper location with information and a garden related to a feature of the planet.

Parking arrangements for the dedication have been made at Severna Park Middle School.
