Brewers: Hall of Famer Warren Spahn will throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the home opener on Friday, the final home opener at County Stadium. The Brewers, who will play host to the Cubs, will move into the new Miller Park for the 2000 season.

Cardinals: Mark McGwire has 27 homers in his past 47 games dating to last season. Scott Radinsky gave up hits to three of the four batters he faced, but still has not allowed a run in four appearances.

Pirates: Left-hander Chris Peters (0-0) starts tomorrow afternoon in place of Francisco Cordova, whose next start was moved back to Saturday in Cincinnati. Cordova lasted only two innings Saturday against the Cubs because he couldn't get loose on the mound.
