18-year-old killed when car runs off road, hits utility pole
PERRY HALL -- One man was killed and a second injured in a single-car accident late Monday, county police said.
Shawn E. Polston, 18, of the first block of Chapel Towne Road was killed when the 1992 Chevy Cavalier he was driving east in the 3700 block of E. Joppa Road left the road and hit a utility pole. Matthew Walters, 19, of the first block of Arlen Court was a passenger in the Cavalier and was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.
Walters was released yesterday, said a hospital official. Alcohol, speed and driver error were factors in the accident, police said.
Volunteers needed to plant trees along Dulaney Branch
TOWSON -- Volunteers are needed Saturday to help plant 1,000 trees along the banks of Dulaney Branch, a tributary leading to Loch Raven Reservoir.
The planting will begin at 8 a.m. between Dance Mill and Dulaney Valley roads in the Valley View/Cloverland Farms section.

Man charged with trespassing on cellular telephone tower
KINGSVILLE -- A trespassing charge was filed yesterday against a man who spent four hours on a cellular telephone tower Monday morning.
Timothy M. Sanders, 35, of the 4100 block of Klausmier Road was talked down from the Cellular One tower near Kingsville Elementary School by police negotiators about 11 a.m.
Yesterday, he was charged with trespassing, released on his own recognizance and taken to Spring Grove Hospital Center in Catonsville for further evaluation, said Cpl. Vickie Warehime, county police spokeswoman. Trespassing is a misdemeanor punishable by a $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.

Four honored for efforts to keep downtown clean, safe
Four people received awards yesterday for helping to make downtown Baltimore cleaner and safer.
In a program sponsored by the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, Patricia Pittman was honored as public safety guide, Sheldon Cooper as clean sweep ambassador, Officer Barbara Jean Wilson as police partner and Roland Bishop as maintenance partner.
Police and public works officials participated in the event at the Sheraton Inner Harbor Hotel.
Police have no suspect in fatal shooting of man
Police said yesterday that they had no suspect and knew of no motive in the fatal shooting of a man Monday in East Baltimore.
Detective Ronald Berger said Reginald W. Wilson Jr., 24, whose last known address was the 1400 block of Gusryan St. in O'Donnell Heights, was walking across a parking lot in the 2300 block of Orleans St. about 3: 30 a.m. when he was shot.
Berger said an officer, who was flagged down by a passer-by, found the body of Wilson, who was known to frequent the area.
