Maryland State Tax Office open for income tax filings

The Maryland State Tax Office in Westminster will be open for income tax filings from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The office will remain open until 7 p.m. on tax day, April 15.

County gets BGE payment for liquid natural gas project

The Carroll County commissioners have received $66,000 from BGE -- the first in a series of payments to the county for allowing construction of a liquid natural gas pumping station at Northern Landfill.

The pumping station will serve BGE's Westminster area customers' needs for five to 15 years -- a period in which the county will receive additional payments from BGE.

BGE says its long-term plan is to build transmission mains and eventually eliminate this interim measure.
