Howard County police charged a Woodbine resident with burglary yesterday, saying he wandered into a neighbor's house and fell asleep on her bed.
Officials received a call at 7: 08 a.m. Wednesday from a 45-year-old woman in the 15700 block of Bushy Park Road in Woodbine. She reported that she awoke to find a stranger sleeping next to her.
Police suspect the man walked into the house through an unlocked door between 2: 30 a.m. and 7 a.m., said Sgt. Morris Carroll, a county police spokesman.
Upon their arrival, officers stirred the man from his slumber.
"It looks like he was trying to get to a friend's house," Carroll said. "We think he was intoxicated."
Police charged Jonathan D. Hughes, 18, with fourth-degree burglary. Hughes has no prior record, police said.
His mother said yesterday that he is an outstanding member of the community who made a mistake. "He's a good kid," Marilyn Hughes said. "He was just lost."
