Lt. Terry Katz, commander of the Maryland State Police barracks in Westminster, will be one of 44 troopers to be honored todayin a promotion ceremony at state police headquarters in Pikesville.
Katz and six others were promoted Dec. 9 to the rank of lieutenant and installed as barracks commanders.
Four troopers will be elevated to the rank of captain and 33 were to receive supervisory ranks of corporal, sergeant and first sergeant from Col. David B. Mitchell, state police superintendent.
Mitchell also planned to make a special "honorary trooper" presentation to Jake Rome, a 6-year-old from Baltimore County. The boy is undergoing treatment for a malignant brain tumor and is described by his parents as being "such a trooper."
Fire
Westminster: Westminster and Littlestown, Pa., responded at 12: 26 a.m. yesterday to a deck fire in the 900 block of Firestone Road. Units were out 40 minutes.
Police
Westminster: A resident of Gallatin Court told police Thursday that property was stolen from his vehicle while it was parked in front of his home. Loss was estimated at $500.
Westminster: A resident of Hanover, Pa., told police Thursday that the back window of his vehicle was shattered while it was parked at the rear of Marada Industries. Loss was estimated at $200.
Westminster: A resident of Winged Foot Drive told police Thursday that a sliding glass door was shattered at his home. Loss was estimated at $600.
Westminster: A plate-glass window in the door of David's Jeweler's on East Main Street was reported shattered Sunday. The loss was estimated at $200.
