Central District
Theft: While an employee of an out-of-town jewelry company was showing jewelry to people at the Gem & Jewelry Show at the Baltimore Convention Center in the first block of W. Pratt St. on Sunday, someone stole a white box with several small envelopes containing cut and unmounted diamonds valued at $300,000..
Assault: Larry Lehr, 56, of the 1000 block of N. Calvert St. was in critical condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center after an assailant beat him in the head and body yesterday morning on a city-owned parking lot in the 100 block of E. Lafayette Ave. between Calvert and St. Paul streets. A police officer on patrol about 8 a.m. found the victim.
Theft from vehicle: A laptop computer valued at $5,000 was stolen yesterday from a 1999 Ford van parked in the 300 block of Park Ave.
Theft from vehicle: A laptop computer and 15 compact discs, all valued at more than $3,000, were stolen Sunday from a 1995 Ford Windstar parked in the 200 block of W. Franklin St.
Theft/arrest: A male employee of Shucker's Oyster Bar in the Light Street pavilion at Harborplace was arrested Sunday and charged with stealing more than $2,000 in a paper bag in the manager's purse. The money was not recovered.
Southwestern District
Shooting/arrests: Detective Randy Humes of the Violent Crimes Task Force said several teen-age males were in the 2200 block of Ashton St. about 8: 20 p.m. Sunday when two youths, one with a handgun, demanded their money. When a youth, 17, who was standing nearby and was not with the victims, walked away, the gunman panicked and shot him in the left side of the head and right leg. Minutes later, and two blocks away, two East Baltimore youths, 14 and 16, were arrested and charged as adults with attempted murder and felony handgun violations and were processed at the Central Booking and Intake Center. Their names were not released. Humes said a .38-caliber revolver was recovered. He said the wounded youth was in good condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center and that a third suspect was being sought.

Suspect charged: Troy D. Neal, 27, of the 2600 block of Dudley Ave. was arrested during the weekend on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder in the shooting of Che Antonio Carter, 24, of the 2500 block of Frederick Ave. Carter was killed Thursday while he sat in a car parked in the 2300 block of Greenmount Ave. Neal was being held without bond at the Central Booking and Intake Center. A second suspect was being sought. A motive for the shooting was not known.
