Still perfect vs. Hoyas, No. 2 Duke prevails; Princeton gets first win; Harvard tops Penn in OT; Nation

Junior Jared Frood scored four goals, including three in the first quarter, to lead second-ranked Duke to a 10-8 win yesterday over No. 7 Georgetown in men's lacrosse before 2,216 at Harbin Field in Washington.

The Blue Devils (7-0) are off to the best start in school history, bettering a 6-0 start in 1951. Duke has not lost in 12 meetings with the Hoyas and ended Georgetown's eight-game home winning streak.

Duke never trailed after scoring three consecutive goals to lead 4-2 after the first period.

The Blue Devils' biggest lead was four goals at 9-5 after Chris Kakel converted on an extra-man opportunity with 10: 19 left.

Georgetown (4-1) twice cut the deficit to two in the final quarter, the last at 9-7, on a goal by Mike Henehan.

No. 11 Princeton 13, Rutgers 3: Josh Sims had a career-high five goals and Princeton held Rutgers scoreless over the first 43: 05 as the visiting Tigers claimed their first win of the season.

Princeton (1-3), the two-time defending national champion, had lost its previous three games by a combined four goals.

The Tigers led 7-1 at halftime and 10-1 after Sims scored his fourth goal midway through the third period.

Rob Torti had three goals for Princeton, who outshot Rutgers (2-4), 41-23.

Harvard 8, No. 13 Pennsylvania 7, OT: Roger Buttles' goal with less than a minute left in overtime propelled the host Crimson (2-2) over the Quakers (5-2) in an Ivy League game.

Penn failed to hold a 6-3 lead late in the third quarter as Harvard rallied with four goals in the final seven minutes.

Buttles scored with 1: 41 left in regulation to force the extra period.

Notre Dame 10, Hobart 8: Four different players scored two goals as Irish coach Kevin Corrigan earned his 100th career victory.

The first half had four ties before Notre Dame (4-2) used an unassisted goal by Brad Owen to move ahead to stay, 6-4, at halftime.

The Irish led 10-7 after Steve Bishko scored with 3: 25 left.

Bishko, Tom Glatzel, Todd Ulrich and Chris Dusseau each had two goals for Notre Dame.
