No. 1 McDonogh bounces back, downs No. 10 Dulaney, 11-4; Eagles win following loss to Boys' Latin; Daly scores 5

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Only 16 hours after a tough overtime loss at No. 3 Boys' Latin, No. 1 McDonogh faced a 10th-ranked Dulaney program bent on proving itself against a Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference power.

The visiting Lions hoped to catch the Eagles napping, maybe give them yet another wake-up call. But McDonogh established the early intensity to lay the Lions' upset bid to rest, 11-4.

McDonogh (4-1) led 3-0 early in the second period, used a 4-0 run for a 7-1 lead in the third period, and added another 4-0 run for an 11-2 lead late in the fourth. Johns Hopkins-bound All-Metro attackman Bobby Benson had two goals and four assists, and Princeton-bound All-Metro midfielder Owen Daly had five goals.

Brett Barrow scored twice in the game's final 1: 33 for Dulaney (0-1), which received one goal apiece from Steve and Bryant Will and 12 saves from keeper Nick Mowbray. McDonogh's Jed Prossner had two assists, and teammates Matt Primm, Brian McGregor, Brad Dumont and Walid Hajj scored once each.

Daly scored four of McDonogh's first six goals, including the game's initial goal and the final three goals of the first half to help the Eagles to a 6-1 lead.

Benson had a goal and an assist during McDonogh's game-clinching 4-0 run. He notched his final score with 34 seconds left in the third period, swiping the ball from the keeper and burying it from point-blank range, and assisted Daly at 4: 57 of the fourth period for an 11-2 lead.
