Search operations are to resume this morning for a 41-year-old man missing in a Talbot County creek after a boating mishap that threw him and a teen-ager into the water yesterday afternoon, authorities said.
The incident occurred about 1 p.m. in Cummings Creek, off Tilghman Island, where Joseph B. Janda Sr. and a 13-year-old relative were in a 19-foot Carolina skiff setting eel pots, said John Surrick, spokesman for the Maryland Natural Resources Police.
Janda and the youth were returning to shore to get more pots when the boat veered, throwing both occupants into the water, Surrick said.
The youth swam about 200 yards to shore, but Janda disappeared. Police used a helicopter in a search effort, assisted by local volunteer fire departments, until the search was suspended at dark, the spokesman said.
Surrick said the youth -- whose name and relation to Janda were not divulged -- was treated at a local hospital and returned to the site to help with the search.
