Right topic, wrong city

AT THE beginning of a much-anticipated presentation of a study of Annapolis' water and sewer rates Monday night, Gaithersburg-based engineering consultant Robert Ambrose said to the city council: "Ladies and gentlemen I'm here to present a study of the city of Baltimore's water and sewer oh, I'm off to a bad start."

From the back of the room, Ward 1 Democratic Alderman Louise Hammond interjected: "Oh, that's why the rates were so high."

Flattery gets him nowhere " I LIKE your style," said Rodney A. Driver, 47, of the 1600 block of Marley Ave. in Glen Burnie, to Anne Arundel County Circuit Judge Pamela L. North on Tuesday.

Ten minutes later, she sentenced him to 18 months in jail for robbery.

He didn't mention her style any more.

Just horsing around

DRIVING HOME from work Tuesday, I turned onto a quiet Glen Burnie side street to find a large, white horse coming toward me at a full gallop down the asphalt road.

As I stopped my car and stared, the rider leaned into his mount and swept past on his journey through Suburbia, leaving motorists and pedestrians alike startled.

I'm not sure which damsel in distress the rider was in such a hurry to save, but I did note he was not headed in the direction of my house.
