Services set for Ripken Sr.

THE BALTIMORE SUN

The family of Cal Ripken Sr. will welcome those wishing to pay respects to the former Orioles coach and manager tomorrow and Monday at the Tarring-Cargo Funeral Home, 333 South Parke St. in Aberdeen.

Viewings will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. each day.

A private memorial service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Aberdeen. The service will be limited to family members and close friends.

Ripken died Thursday of lung cancer at the age of 63.

In honor of Ripken's memory, his family will establish a foundation "devoted to teaching our youth the craft of baseball," said a spokesman for the Tufton Group, a Towson public relations firm that represents Orioles third baseman Cal Ripken Jr.

Plans for the organization are incomplete, but donations may be sent to The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, 2330 West Joppa Road, Suite 333, Lutherville, Md. 21093.

Memorial contributions also may be made to the Maryland Special Olympics, 8300 Guilford Road, Suite A, Columbia, Md. 21046; The Ripken Museum, P.O. Box 8, Aberdeen, Md. 21001; or Boys and Girls Club of Harford County, Maryland Inc., 100 E. Bel Air Ave., Aberdeen, Md. 21001.
