Severt pitches Atholton to win over Hammond; No. 7 Arundel runs away with softball victory, 24-4; Roundup

Andy Severt pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and striking out nine as No. 14 Atholton defeated Hammond, 3-2, yesterday in Howard County baseball.

Severt also had a two-run single in the first inning that put host Atholton (2-1) ahead to stay.

The Raiders' Nick Hartman pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out situation in the top of the seventh to secure the win.

Softball

No. 7 Arundel 24, Southern-AA 4: Valarie McDowell went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and two steals as the host Wildcats (3-0) routed the Bulldogs in five innings. Arundel scored 13 runs in the first inning.
