A 42-year-old man -- at large for more than 17 years in an East Baltimore killing -- was convicted of voluntary manslaughter and the use of a handgun yesterday in the 1981 shooting death of a teen-ager.
Orlando Padgett was convicted by a jury in the death of William Redditt, who was 17 when he was killed outside an after-hours club in the 1900 block of Clifton Ave. in July 1981. Padgett had been living in Seattle until he was arrested for disorderly conduct and a record check turned up the murder warrant.
Padgett, who was extradited to Baltimore, will be sentenced next month.
