THE BALTIMORE SUN

Want company while you walk? A sampling of Baltimore-area walking clubs:

* Volksmarches: Volksmarch clubs organize scenic six-mile walks for the entire family (volksmarches), but you don't have to be a member to participate. Call 800-830-WALK for local events and contact numbers. Check out the American Volksport Association Web site at www.ava.org.

* Baltimore Front Runners: This lesbian and gay running and walking group meets in Canton. For information, contact Bob Gerchalk at 410-558-0628 or www.charm.net/thatone/ bfr.htm.

* LifeBridge Health: This group sponsors three "Wellness Walks" at area malls that are popular with seniors. Walk for free at Reisterstown Road Plaza, starting at 6:30 a.m.; Owings Mills mall, starting at 7:30 a.m.; or at 8 a.m. at Carrolltown Center mall in Eldersburg. LifeBridge offers free blood-pressure screenings for walkers.

* White Marsh mall walkers: Franklin Square Hospital co-sponsors 7 a.m. walking daily, blood-pressure screenings monthly, and a light exercise class on Fridays. Occasionally they throw a breakfast.

* Annapolis and Harford malls: Walkers start at 7 a.m.

* The Mall in Columbia: Walkers start at 9 a.m. during current renovation. Once construction is complete, walkers will be able to return to their 7 a.m. start time.
