Existing-home sales up 18% in February

Sales of existing homes grew 18 percent in February over February 1998, according to statistics released by the Metropolitan Regional Information System.

MRIS, the multiple listing system database used by Realtors and the Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors, covers most of Maryland, Washington and parts of Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

Nearly 6,400 homes were sold in the MRIS area, representing more than $1.1 billion in sales transactions.

Thomas Builders won a Silver Merit Award for model home merchandising at the 22nd annual awards ceremony of the Sales and Marketing Council of the Home Builders Association of Maryland. The award came in the $160,000 to $189,999 single-family-detached category for the Baldwin model at Crosswell Farms in Owings Mills.

Pulte Homes Corp. announced the acquisition of Wellington West, a new community of 33 estate homes in Glenwood in western Howard County.

Prices for homes in Wellington West begin at $400,000 and feature four- and five-bedroom dwellings, ranging from 3,200 to 4,300 square feet.

Century 21 Rosendale Realty, with offices in Kent Island, Greensboro and Centreville, was awarded the Quality Service Pinnacle Award by Century 21 System in recognition of consistent quality service.

Ruppert Homes Inc. has received the Quality Builders Warranty Corporation's Mark of Excellence Award.

The award is given to a company that demonstrates outstanding craftsmanship and customer service as well as a commitment to homeowner satisfaction.

O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA Janet Luck joined the firm as vice president of finance at OPF's corporate headquarters. Bonnie Flinchbaugh has been named manager of the Owings Mills office and Judy Yoder Tyree is sales manager of the Westminster office.

Pulte Homes Corp. said Robyn Walters and Karlen Murray have been promoted to community sales managers for new home communities in Prince George's and Charles counties.
