Chinese dance

The Chinese Folk Dance Company takes the stage Sunday at Towson University to present an afternoon of classical dance and music representative of China's folk culture and tradition. As dancers' colorful silk ribbons, feather fans, handkerchiefs and swords fill the air, and elaborate costumes and props fill the stage, the audience is transported into a world of myths and historical drama, with music and dance from the rural farmlands to the Imperial Palace.

The Chinese Folk Dance Company is the resident dance company of the New York Chinese Cultural Center. The concert is geared to all ages and is sponsored by Young Audiences of Maryland Inc. and the Asian Arts and Culture Center of Towson University.

The Chinese Folk Dance Company performs at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Center for the Arts Concert Hall, Towson University, Osler and Cross Campus drives. $15; $8 students, faculty and members. $10 reception with the artists after the performance. Call 410-830-ARTS.

Concert and dance

Don't jump, jive and wail. Snap, clap and dance as the Baltimore Folk Music Society presents a family concert and dance with Sue Trainor, Hot Soup! and Ellen Jacobs and Her Fiddling Kids Sunday at Woodbrook Baptist Church. Trainor celebrates the release of her first kids' recording, "Under Tables, Out Back Doors," with an hour of interactive song performances and humorous stories. She'll be joined by Hot Soup! members Sue Ribaudo and Christina Muir.

Afterward, a square and contra dance for the whole family will be called by DeLaura Padovan, with music by Ellen Jacobs and Her Fiddling Kids. Visitors are encouraged to take a snack to share at the break. Beverages are provided.

The concert begins at 2 p.m., the dance at 3 p.m. Sunday at Woodbrook Baptist Church, 25 Stevenson Lane, Towson. $9; $7 BFMS members; $5 children. Family admission $20. Wheelchair-accessible. Call 410-366-0808 or 410-321-8419.
