Parolee charged in robbery at Fairmount Savings

ROSEDALE -- Police have charged a parolee in Monday's robbery of Fairmount Federal Savings Bank in the 8200 block of Philadelphia Road.

The man told a teller he had a bomb in a bag he carried, stole $842 in the 9: 30 a.m. robbery and escaped in a 1989 Nissan Sentra whose tag number was given to police by a customer. The car was traced to a residence in the 6600 block of Ridgeborne Drive in White Marsh, where the suspect arrived about 1: 10 p.m. but drove off and was arrested several blocks away, police said.

No bomb was found but police recovered $741 believed taken in the robbery. FBI agent Peter A. Gulotta Jr. said Albert Leroy Burley Jr., 34, who was charged with armed bank robbery, was on parole for a 1992 bank robbery conviction.

Drum and bugle corps to perform in Parkville

PARKVILLE -- The Annual Dixie Stinger Drum and Bugle Corps concert will be held at 6: 30 p.m. March 27 at Parkville High School, 2600 Putty Hill Road. Tickets are $11.

The concert will feature several groups, including the Naval Academy drum and bugle corps, the American Original Fife and Drum Corps of Upper Marlboro and the Yankee Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps from the Hamilton American Legion Post No. 20.

Proceeds will go toward uniforms, travel and other expenses incurred by the Yankee Rebels. Ticket information: Lou Blancato at 301-855-2085.

Museum seeks volunteers to work in display rooms

MIDDLE RIVER -- Glenn L. Martin Aviation Museum, at Martin State Airport, is seeking volunteers to work in display rooms at the museum, established to promote aviation history in Maryland.

Displays include wind tunnel models, aircraft equipment paintings, photographs and aviation artifacts. Museum hours are 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Young Hopkins patients to race wheelchairs

Patients at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center will race their wheelchairs through an obstacle course, Rockin' Wheels in Motion, at 1 p.m. Friday at the hospital, 600 N. Wolfe St.

The event is part of the facility's celebration of Children and Healthcare Week this week in conjunction with the Association for the Care of Children's Health. Information: 410-223-1731.

Police meetings to begin today in Western District

Police Commissioner Thomas C. Frazier and his top commanders will meet with Western District residents at 6: 30 p.m. today at the Police Athletic League Center, 1310 N. Stricker St.

The top police officials will hold community breakfasts for the Central District at 8: 30 a.m. March 24 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Light Street in the Inner Harbor and for the Northeastern District at 8: 30 a.m. March 26 at Heritage Gardens, 7631 Harford Road.
