Edward Paul Moylan, 63, IWIF claims director

Edward Paul Moylan, retired director of claims for the state Injured Workers' Insurance Fund, died Wednesday of lung cancer at North Arundel Hospital. He was 63 and lived in Glen Burnie.

The Baltimore native left high school in 1953 and enlisted in the Army. He spent three years in Europe defusing mines, bombs and artillery shells -- among them, a World War I German mustard gas shell that discharged in his face in Verdun, France, and permanently scarred his lungs.

By 1963, he had earned a law degree from the University of Baltimore and a job with the Injured Workers' Insurance Fund. He retired in 1993 and worked as an insurance consultant.

Services will be held at 9: 30 a.m. today at McCully Funeral Home, Mountain and Tickneck roads in Pasadena.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, the former Denise Baughan; two sons, Matthew Moylan and Christian Moylan, both of Glen Burnie; a sister, Ann Marie Pintavalle of Red Hook, N.Y.; and three brothers, John T. Moylan of Catonsville, Martin I. Moylan of Baltimore and William J. Moylan of Carney.

Scottie J. Beech, 54, worked for X-ray company

Scottie J. Beech, who worked in the X-ray business, died Thursday of a cerebral aneurysm at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was 54 and lived in Perry Hall.

Because of declining health, he retired in 1994 as regional sales and marketing manager at X-ray manufacturer Oldelft Corp. of America. Earlier, he was administrative director of imaging services at Harbor Hospital Center and chief technologist at the U.S. Public Health Hospital in Baltimore.

Born in Alabama in 1944 and raised in Ohio, he moved to Maryland to study at Baltimore City Hospitals School of Radiologic Technology, graduating in 1966.

While there, he married a classmate from Pennsylvania, Jane E. Groft.

Mr. Beech was an avid freshwater fisherman.

A memorial Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. today at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 8420 Belair Road, Fullerton.

In addition to his wife of 33 years, Mr. Beech is survived by two daughters, Kristen L. Beech of Newark, Del., and Karen E. Beech of Cockeysville.
