Hometown Girl in Hampden wants you to be happy in your home, hon. That's why the shop is now carrying "The Feng Shui Book & Card Pack" (above) by Richard Craze (Conari, 1997, $19.95). Feng shui (pronounced fung schway) is the ancient Chinese art of placement -- aligning buildings and their contents to encourage the flow of ch'i, or life energy. The goal is order, harmony and balance, something most of us could use more of in our lives. The book explains the principles of feng shui, and the cards help you figure out what changes you need to make to enhance ch'i and discourage sha, or bad energy. Hometown Girl is at 1000 W. 36th St. For more information, call 410-662-4438.
Housewares from Target
A teakettle topped with a red coach's whistle and a rotund little toaster with a blue knob are among the most popular items in a new collection of housewares designed by the architect Michael Graves for Target. The collection also features picture frames, clocks, a can opener, an ice bucket and lawn furniture. Prices range from $3.99 for kitchen utensils to $479.95 for a hardwood patio set with a table and four chairs. -- K. M.
Charmingly Irish
The charm of all things Irish spills out of a new book from Country Living magazine called "Irish Country: Decorating With Pottery, Fabric and Furniture" (Hearst Books, 1998, $25). The text by Nicholas Mosse is refreshingly informal, and informative. And the book includes directions for re-creating some of the designs, from stenciled china to a tweed throw -- projects that almost anyone can do.
