School for Arts

THE BALTIMORE SUN

For those who like to express themselves artistically, the Baltimore School for the Arts' annual fund-raiser, Expressions '99, was the perfect night out.

About 480 guests began their evening with a little artful education, BSA style. Arty amateurs like Dr. Robert Booker, Baltimore City school system CEO; Cheryl Hudgins Williams, public affairs manager for Procter & Gamble Co.; Sally Michel, SuperKids Camp founder; Robert Embry, Abell Foundation president; and author Jim Dale split up into classes led by BSA teachers and students. They and all the other guests had a chance to learn acting exercises, an island-dance routine, a "My Fair Lady" tune, or paint wineglasses.

WJZ-TV news anchor Vic Carter declared his goblet gorgeous enough to sell, while PW Feats president Paul Wolman kept his crystal creation well in hand.

After dinner in the school's ballroom, BSA students put on a show, doing proud event co-chairs Betsy Nelson and Meadow Lark Washington, honorary chairs Amy Elias and Esther Pearlstone, and school director Stanley Romanstein.

Expressions raised $100,000, which goes to School for the Arts programs.
