Robert Brittingham, 43, hospital parking manager

Robert "Bunky" Brittingham, operations manager for Broadway Services at Johns Hopkins Hospital, died Saturday of injuries he suffered in an automobile accident in Ellicott City. The Upper Marlboro resident was 43.

Since 1993, he was operations manager in charge of parking at the hospital. Earlier, he held a similar position at Edison Parking.

The Snow Hill native graduated from high school there and served in the Army from 1977 to 1986.

Services for Mr. Brittingham will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 405 Flower St., Berlin.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, the former Deborah Purnell; two daughters, Alexis Brittingham and Ceara Brittingham, both of Upper Marlboro; four sisters, Teola Brittingham of Berlin, Nevada Howard of Baltimore, Ruth Jones of Wilmington, Del., and Barbara Beckett of Philadelphia; and his paternal grandfather, Howard Waters of Snow Hill.

Charles R. Rouse Jr., 75, SSA policy specialist

Charles R. Rouse Jr., a retired Social Security Administration policy specialist, died Monday of a heart attack at home in Cedarcroft. He was 75.

He joined SSA in 1968 and retired in 1985. Earlier, he was an insurance claims adjuster.

Born in East Baltimore, he earned a bachelor's degree from Loyola College in 1943 and graduated from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1950.

He was a Navy officer during World War II and retired as a commander in the reserves in 1983.

Mr. Rouse was a communicant and an extraordinary minister, taking communion to the ill and shut-ins, at the Roman Catholic Cathedral of Mary Our Queen, where a Mass of Christian burial was offered yesterday.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Bernadette Feeley; five sons, Charles O. Rouse of Edgemere, David G. Rouse of Anneslie, Mark Rouse of Towson, John Rouse of New Freedom, Pa., and Thomas Rouse of Timonium; and nine grandchildren.

Betty Keyser, 72, homemaker

Betty Keyser, a Chesapeake Beach homemaker, died Wednesday of heart failure at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She was 72.

The former Betty Petree, a Baltimore native, enjoyed quilting and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Hanover and Twin Beach Senior Center in Chesapeake Beach.

She married George W. Ball in 1946; they divorced in the 1970s.

Services for Mrs. Keyser are set for 10: 30 a.m. tomorrow at Marshall's Funeral Home, 4308 Suitland Road, Suitland.

She is survived by her husband, Ray Keyser, whom she married in 1980; two sons, Joseph Earl Ball of Lansdowne and Jerry Ball of Hyattsville; four daughters, Janet Bankowski of Baltimore, Nancy Steele and Barbara Neely, both of Chesapeake Beach, and Carol Meyers of Towson; a sister, Ovelia Petree of Baltimore County; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Charlene L. Butler, 37, Defense Department worker

Charlene L. Butler, who worked for the Department of Defense at Fort Meade, died Monday of cardiac arrest at North Arundel Hospital. The Glen Burnie resident was 37.

She had worked at the military installation since 1981.

A native of Catonsville, the former Charlene Coleman graduated from Andover High School in 1979 and married Lionel R. Butler in 1997.

Services are set for noon tomorrow at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 1436 Dorsey Road, Hanover.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Nathaniel Randall of Glen Burnie; her parents, Charles and Ann Coleman of Glen Burnie; two brothers, Christopher Steward and Charles Coleman Jr., both of Glen Burnie; and two sisters, Patricia Snowden of Baltimore and Trinia Coleman of Glen Burnie.

Mildred K. Hook, 96, homemaker, volunteer

Mildred K. Hook, a homemaker and volunteer, died Wednesday of pancreatic cancer at Ridgeway Manor Nursing Home in West Baltimore. She was 96.

A former longtime Catonsville resident, she had volunteered at Bon Secours Hospital, St. Martin's Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor and at Ridgeway Manor.

The former Mildred Hardy was born and raised in a Hollins Street rowhouse near Union Square. She attended city schools and, as a young girl, sold vegetables at her father's Hollins Market stall.

During the 1950s, she worked at the then-state Department of Motor Vehicles.

In 1920, she married Leroy Hook Sr., a Baltimore and Ohio Railroad administrator, who died in 1980.

A Mass of Resurrection will be offered at 10 a.m. tomorrow at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, U.S. 40 and St. Agnes Lane, Catonsville.

She is survived by two sons, Leroy Hook Jr. of Baltimore and Francis Hook of Ocean City; a daughter, Verna Siford of York, Pa.; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
