Four candidates are nominated for at-large school board seat

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Four candidates are running for an at-large school board seat that will open up in July when Thomas J. Florestano's term ends.

After five years on the board, Florestano, a former president of Anne Arundel Community College, has decided not to seek a second term.

Candidates Janet Hogar of Glen Burnie and Torey Jacobsen, Ed Dvorek and Cindi Johnson of Crofton have been nominated by community groups to the School Board Nominating Convention. The convention, made up of delegates from community groups, will hold public hearings in April to determine which name or names to forward to Gov. Parris N. Glendening, who will make the final school board appointment.

The deadline for candidates to be nominated is tomorrow.

The nominating convention will hold hearings at Old Mill High School April 13, Annapolis Senior High School April 22 and Northeast High School April 28. All hearings will begin at 7 p.m.

Convention delegates will cast their final votes at 7 p.m. May 5 at Glen Burnie High School.

For information on becoming a convention delegate or being nominated to the school board, call convention Chairman Alan Lang at 410-544-1157 or 410-266-7262.
