Scholar-athlete awards to be presented tonight; 91 area football players in line for scholarships

A total of 91 athletes from the Greater Baltimore area will compete for $10,000 in college scholarships when the Baltimore Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame holds its 36th annual Scholar Athlete Awards dinner at 6 tonight.

After five regional award winners are announced at Martin's West in Woodlawn, one will be chosen as the grand prize winner.

Class 1A state football champion Oakland Mills and Class 2A state champion Urbana of Frederick County each will receive special achievement awards along with NCAA Division III Centennial Conference champion Western Maryland. The Paul A. Menton Award as the area's top scholastic team will go to Gilman. And the Service to Football Award will be presented to Andy Borland of Severna Park.
