Gunman takes three vehicles, fails at fourth; Police are searching for unidentified carjacker

THE BALTIMORE SUN

An unidentified man cut a carjacking swath through Baltimore yesterday, taking three vehicles at gunpoint and trying to take a fourth, police said.

The man began by stealing a 1992 Thunderbird in Baltimore about 9: 30 a.m. yesterday, police said. The Thunderbird got stuck in a minor traffic jam on Liberty Road near the city line, said county police spokeswoman Cpl. Vickie Warehime.

Apparently frustrated with the delay, the carjacker drove over a sidewalk to get around an Mass Transit Administration bus. When the car returned to the road, it collided with a 1988 Hyundai at Liberty Road and Flannery Lane.

"He carjacked the Hyundai and drove to Liberty and Northern Parkway," Warehime said. After the damaged Hyundai broke down, the driver approached another car at the intersection and began banging on the window with his handgun.

The driver of that car ducked and drove off, Warehime said, and the gunman approached a truck, put his gun through the open window and ordered the driver out. The truck was later found in the city, Warehime said.

The carjacker is described as a black male between 20 and 30 years old, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches, medium build, with closely cropped hair and a mustache, she said. The carjacking victims were not identified by police.
