In 1855, residents of Millersville and Gambrills decided to create a school of higher learning for pupils graduating from elementary school. From these roots set down in western Anne Arundel County more than a century ago, Arundel High School has developed a tradition of commitment to academics and community responsibility. This year is particularly important in Arundel's history: the 50th anniversary of the high school's move to its current building.
A group of Arundel alumni wanted to explore ways to celebrate this anniversary and to strengthen the network of Arundel's finest. Meeting late last month, they formed the Arundel Alumni Association. Officers are President Art Lisowsky; Vice President Ann Henderson;Janet Corey, recording secretary; and Kathryn Kimmett, acting treasurer.
The association is planning several activities, including an anniversary gala/multiyear reunion involving past and present staff and faculty members, alumni picnics, an anniversary book and a homecoming celebration.
The association will hold meetings at 6 p.m. Fridays this month in the school cafeteria. After this month, meetings will be scheduled as needed. Membership dues are $5, which will go toward postage, printing and supplies.
