Boosted by four hat tricks, No. 8 Hoyas rout Army, 22-6; Princeton women cruise past UMBC, 17-3

Scott Urick, Andy Flick, Keith Baker and Alex Mitzner scored three goals apiece yesterday as No. 8 Georgetown dominated host Army, 22-6, in men's lacrosse.

Urick, who also had two assists, got his goals in the first half, as the Hoyas (2-0) scored the game's first eight goals and jumped to a 10-1 halftime lead. They stretched the lead to 12-1 early in the second half on goals by Flick and Greg Hubschmann, and led 16-3 after three quarters.

The Hoyas controlled every facet of the game. They outshot Army, 53-24, held a 52-32 advantage on ground balls and won 23 of 32 faceoffs. Georgetown also was successful on 27 of 37 clears, while the Cadets (1-1) were 18 of 32.

Doug Staab had a goal and four assists, Greg McCavera had a goal and three assists and Greg Hubschmann added two goals and an assist for the Hoyas.

Tim Pearson and Alex Fyfe had a goal and an assist each to lead Army.

Women

Princeton 17, UMBC 3: Tice Burke had four goals and three assists as the host Tigers rolled to a season-opening victory over the Retrievers. Princeton led 4-0 midway through the first half and 8-0 at halftime.

UMBC's first goal didn't come until 31: 03 of the second half.
