Inspire your child by:

* keeping markers and sheets of unlined paper handy so she can start "writing" whenever the urge strikes;

* helping her write her own holiday, birthday and thank-you cards;

* labeling her bedroom drawers or other items together so she learns that writing has a practical use but is also fun;

* writing often in front of your child and talking about what you are doing.
