Flex ticket to fun
Virginia's two mega-theme parks, along with their sister water parks, are joining forces and offering visitors a combination admission ticket. The new flex ticket, part of the Virginia Theme Park Vacation package, gives visitors unlimited admission to Paramount's Kings Dominion, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Water Country USA and Waterworks for five consecutive days.
With this union, the ticket offers 15 roller-coasters -- including Kings Dominion's Blast Coaster (the world's fastest suspended coaster) and Busch Gardens' Apollo's Chariot (plummeting riders 825 feet) -- 70 acres of water parks, more than five children's areas and many shows.
Average package price, including flex ticket and hotel accommodations for four nights, is $834 for a family of four. Rates depend on choice of hotel. Call 800-832-1127.
A NEW B&B; OPENS IN FREDERICK
After two years of renovation, Frederick's newest bed and breakfast has opened. McCleery's Flat is an 1876 French Empire-style townhouse situated among shopping areas, museums and restaurants in downtown Frederick.
Italianate lights, a mahogany staircase, marble fireplaces, Persian rugs and British Colonial-style furniture decorate the first floor. Upstairs, the B&B;'s three rooms and two suites are decorated in different themes: the "General Marquis de Lafayette" room with its French accent has a mahogany sleigh bed and bay window overlooking the courtyard, the English-inspired "Cottage Garden" offers stenciled brick walls and wicker furnishings, and the "Secret Chamber" has the feel of a Mediterranean retreat with two cast-iron beds and huge windows.
A complimentary breakfast is offered by owners Jutta and George Terrell and is served either in the dining room or the courtyard, depending on weather. Call 301-620-2433.
