Syracuse edges Virginia, 14-12


Devin Darcangelo's goal 1: 40 into the final period propelled third-ranked Syracuse to a 14-12 win over No. 7 Virginia yesterday before 5,226 at the Carrier Dome.

It was the Orangemen's fourth consecutive win over the Cavaliers since 1997.

Chris Cordisco's three goals led Syracuse (2-0), while Matt Cutia and Ryan Powell each had two goals and two assists. Davis Baruch had a career-high five goals for Virginia (0-1).

Two second-quarter goals by Powell staked Syracuse to a 7-5 lead at halftime.

No. 10 Delaware 25, Hartford 5: Senior Sean Carney's four goals and two assists led 12 different scorers as the host Blue Hens (2-0) improved to 2-0 for the first time since 1984.

Delaware had its most goals since 1984 and its margin of victory was its greatest since 1983.
