Tony Seaman won his debut as coach at Towson when the 13th-ranked Tigers blitzed Boston College yesterday, 16-4, at Minnegan Stadium.
Jesse D'Alonzo, Kevin Sturm and Spencer Ford each scored three goals for Towson. Ford and Sturm, who returned after sitting out last season with a broken wrist, each added three assists.
The Tigers jumped to a 4-1 lead, extending the margin to 11-1 by halftime. Towson then went scoreless for 19: 28 before its 12th goal came at the start of the final period.
The Tigers dominated in shots (53-19) and ground balls (67-44).
No. 9 UMBC 18, Mount St. Mary's 2: Junior Dan Marohl scored a game-high four goals and the Retrievers held the visiting Mountaineers (0-2) scoreless for 42 minutes in the victory.
UMBC (2-0) allowed its fewest goals since a win over Drexel (20-2) in 1992. The Retrievers led 3-1 after one period and took control with 12 straight goals over the middle quarters.
Washington College 9, Washington & Lee 8: John Fuller scored both the tying and game-winning goals in the final 12 minutes as the host Shoremen rallied to beat the Generals (1-1) in their season opener.
Washington College trailed 8-6 late in the third quarter before a goal by Andrew Greeley (three goals) brought the Shoremen within one entering the final quarter. Fuller had the only two goals of the fourth period.
St. Mary's 18, Goucher 5: C. J. Lauer had six goals and two assists for the host Seahawks (2-2, 1-1 Capital Athletic Conference). Lauer had three of St. Mary's first five goals as the Seahawks moved ahead, 5-1, with 11 minutes left in the second period.
The Seahawks led 9-4 at halftime and outscored Goucher (1-2, 0-1) by 9-1 in the final 24 minutes.
Western Maryland 13, Cabrini 10: Rob Witte's goal with 12: 38 left broke a 10-10 tie as the Green Terror won its season opener at Messiah College in Gratham, Pa. Witte finished with four goals and three assists.
Women
St. Mary's 20, Catholic 5: Gia Trionfo and Melissa Moore combined for 13 points as the Seahawks (2-0, 2-0) rolled over the host Cardinals (1-1, 0-1) in a Capital Athletic Conference game. Trionfo (six goals, one assist) had three goals in the first half and Moore (six goals) four to give St. Mary's a 12-1 lead at halftime.
Salisbury State 21, College of Notre Dame 5: Jen Mezzadra had seven goals and an assist as the Sea Gulls opened the season with the win. Salisbury outshot the host Gators, 35-18, and nine players scored.
