Little questions
A 2-YEAR-OLD walking with her mother through Baltimore Washington International Airport was drawn to a new display warning international travelers against buying products made from endangered species.
"What's that?" the little girl asked.
"That's a gray wolf pelt," the mother answered, taking her cues from the labels on the items.
"What's that?"
"A stony coral."
"What's that?"
"A dwarf crocodile"
"What's that?" On and on down the display they went.
"What's that?"
"Ivory. OK. We're done." the mother said, grabbing the girl's hand and whisking her away.

An eclectic evening
THE TWO-HOUR Monica-fest on television Wednesday created a problem at my house in Pasadena. I really wanted to watch Monica bare her soul and maybe drop some juicy tidbits we hadn't heard.
But Wednesday is "Star Trek" night, and while channel surfing, I stumbled across Dr. Laura on "Larry King Live." I was in a pickle. Do I give in to my base instincts and watch Monica? But if I do, how could I call myself a true "Star Trek" or Dr. Laura fan?
The answer was at my fingertips. The remote.
So, I saw Monica smile when she talked about Bill and shed tears without her mascara running. I caught Dr. Laura's new hairdo and picked up some wisdom on our less than moral society. I watched Captain Janeway and her duplicate crew blow up before reaching the Demon Planet.
Strange TV night, indeed.
