Choir's choice of songs brings sunny smiles

THE BALTIMORE SUN

CHURCHGOERS AT St. Elizabeth Ann Seton's 9: 30 a.m. Mass on Sunday were greeted by a surprise from their choir. As they made their way to their seats in the Crofton church, dragging dripping umbrellas and children who had jumped in every puddle along the way, they heard a song that made them chuckle.

"Rain down," sang the choir. "Rain down, rain down, rain down God's love on us." And as they sang, they struggled to keep from laughing but couldn't keep their grins from bursting forth.

Lori Marino, who sings alto, said the song wasn't chosen for the weather.

Music is selected weeks in advance. And the members were so busy before the service that the relevance of what they were about to sing didn't dawn on them.

But as soon as they started, they began smiling. And a dreary Sunday morning was transformed by a very happy song.

International night

Parishioners at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church have lived and traveled in countries all around the world. Saturday night, they will share the food, clothing, jewelry, music and dancing from a variety of those countries.

The Social Committee at Seton presents an international potluck dinner-dance from 6: 30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the parish center.

Bring a dish characteristic of another country to share with others and enjoy a variety of ethnic fare.

Tina Gutierrez, who helped organize the event, said she also will bring clothes and artifacts from the Philippines, her parents' home country.

Mary Petrosky, another event organizer, said music for dancing will be provided by a disc jockey.

Tickets are $7 and will be on sale at the parish office through tomorrow.
