Chinese New Year

The Year of the Hare was welcomed to Baltimore by the mythical dragon-lion at Grace & St. Peter's Parish and its Chinese Language School. Their Chinese Lunar New Year Festival began with a traditional dragon-lion dance, and ended with a New Year's feast at the school.

In Chinese mythology, the hare represents graciousness and good manners, both of which were in abundance at the dinner.

School director Lillian Lee Kim was hostess at the event, which had as guests of honor Bishop Robert W. Ihloff and the Rev. John L. Rabb. Among those feasting on sub gum and kung po gai-ee were Dolly and Michael Chin, Dorothy Reddick, Sam Weinblatt, Janice Altman, and Raymond and Jenny Liu.

The hare- (and money-) raising event benefited both the church and the Chinese Language School. Pub Date: 02/28/99
