No. 6 Terps cruise past Providence, 18-5


Sixth-ranked Maryland got goals from 10 players on the way to an 18-5 win yesterday over Providence at Byrd Stadium.

Sophomore Jon Kemezis led the Terps (2-0) with four goals and junior Brian Zeller tied his career-high with three goals.

Kemezis had three goals and an assist in the first half as Maryland led 8-1 at intermission.

Providence (0-1) was outshot, 19-0, in the third period, which ended with Maryland ahead, 13-1.

No. 8 Georgetown 12, Brown 4: Senior All-American Greg McCavera had four goals and an assist as the host Hoyas won their season opener.

Scott Urick contributed three goals and an assist for Georgetown, which outshot the Bears, 57-34.

The Hoyas had a 5-0 lead before Brown got on the board.

Brown goalkeeper Strider Dickson (Calvert Hall) had 27 saves.

Mary Washington 13, Villa Julie 12, OT: Ryan Lynch scored with 1: 18 left in overtime to lift the host Eagles (1-1) over the Mustangs (0-2).

Sophomore Travis Williams' four goals led Villa Julie, which scored three fourth-quarter goals to force overtime.
