Scholarships offered for children's programs

The Carroll County Arts Council has announced scholarships for pupils 4 to 18 years old who wish to attend classes in the arts.

StARTer Scholarships are available for pupils enrolling in an arts program for the first time. Programs can include private music or art lessons, group art activities, KinderMusic and other extracurricular activities. Scholarships are a maximum of $50.

Children's Arts Scholarships are available for children who have been enrolled in arts programs or activities for at least one year. Applications include a section for the instructor to verify the child's progress and artistic promise. Scholarships range from $50 to $150.

Families with a combined annual household income of $35,000 or less are eligible to apply for either scholarship.

Deadline for application is April 14. The arts council is at 15 E. Main St., Westminster. Information: 410-848-7272.

Five college scholarships available to art majors

The Carroll County Arts Council will award five college scholarships this year to high school seniors who plan to pursue a degree in the arts.

One scholarship of $500 will be awarded to a graduating senior at each of the five county public high schools. One award will be the Anne Miller Scholarship.

Eligible arts programs for the scholarship include vocal and instrumental music, performance, music theory, composition, art, art history, art education, creative writing, drama, theater, media arts, film studies, arts management and photography.

Applications are available from the arts council or art instructors at schools. Deadline for applications is April 23.
