Tidbits: Choosing cheese for midday meal

The power lunch is taking a blow as Americans spend less time eating their midday meal. With the average lunch lasting about 24 minutes, nutrition also is taking a hit. The Southeast United Dairy Industry Association recommends cheese. On a sandwich or a salad, it can add 20 percent of the recommended daily amount of calcium to our diets.

Tea to the rescue

We all have our own cold and flu remedies. Zinc tablets, vitamin C, the old standby, chicken soup. But Sara Moulton, executive chef for Gourmet magazine, turns to ginger tea: Combine 1/2 cup coarsely chopped fresh ginger root (unpeeled) and 3 cups water in a small saucepan. Bring to boil and simmer 10 minutes. Strain and sweeten with honey to taste.
