It's in the bag: Seasonings succeed

THE BALTIMORE SUN

* Item: Durkee Flavor'N Bag

* What you get: 4 to 6 servings

* Cost: About $2

* Preparation time: 5 to 45 minutes microwave, 20 to 90 minutes conventional oven

* Review: These simple Durkee kits offer home cooking without any messy pans. The envelopes of pre-mixed seasonings include instructions on what ingredients to add and how long to cook the food. When the meal is over, the bag goes in the trash. Durkee's bag mixes cover entrees from meatloaf to pork chops to fish. We tried Barbecue Spareribs, Lemon Butter Fish and Sweet & Sour Chicken, and found them all tasty. The ribs were tender -- even after being microwaved. The chicken -- augmented with the suggested pineapple chunks -- offered a tangy but still mild sauce. And although lemon juice and herbs would produce the same fish dish, the bag is a godsend for novices afraid of ending up with dry, tasteless fillets.
