Winthrop: The Eagles have been the surprise of the Big South. Picked to finish last after going 7-20 a year ago, Winthrop is 16-7 overall and 6-1 in the league.

Nebraska: After a disappointing football season, Cornhuskers fans have something to cheer about this winter. Nebraska (16-8) has won eight of its past nine games, including two wins over Kansas, to move into contention for an NCAA bid.

Teams on the way down

Cincinnati: After winning 20 of their first 21, the Bearcats have lost two straight in Conference USA.

Toledo: After a 10-0 start that included wins over Ohio State and Xavier, the Rockets have fizzled. Now 16-5 and with an RPI falling to 41st, they are in jeopardy of not getting an at-large bid if they don't win the Mid-American Conference tournament.
