Charlotte R. Thom, 85, Hutzler's manager, teacher
Charlotte R. Thom, former department store official and retired educator, died Saturday of congestive heart failure at John Knox Village, a retirement community in Tampa, Fla. She was 85.
Mrs. Thom, who also had resided at Broadmead, the Cockeysville retirement community, was human resources manager for Hutzler's department store chain in Baltimore from 1948 until 1961. She then taught second grade at Mount Royal Elementary School and retired in 1985.
She was a longtime resident of Dickeyville.
The former Charlotte R. Cassell was born in Northwest Baltimore. She earned a bachelor's degree in 1935 and a master's degree in education in the 1960s, both from Goucher College.
In 1987, she married Victor Louis Thom, a retired Army officer, who survives.
A memorial service will be held tomorrow in Tampa.
She also is survived by a sister, Harriet Cassell Smith of Ogunquit, Maine; a stepson, Richard K. Thom of Idaho Falls, Idaho; a stepdaughter, Vicki Thom of San Antonio; and many nieces and nephews.
John A. Bunch, 68, sports fan
John A. Bunch, a West Baltimore resident, died Thursday of cancer at Lorien Frankford Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in East Baltimore. He was 68.
The native of Rocky Mount, N.C., who came to Baltimore in 1974, was an avid sports fan.
Services are set for 11: 30 a.m. today at March Funeral Home, 1101 E. North Ave.
Mr. Bunch, a lifelong bachelor, is survived by a brother, Tugh Bunch; and a sister, Georganna Davis, both of Baltimore.
