Columbia Council's vice chairman won't seek another term

The Columbia Council's vice chairman said yesterday he will not seek another two-year term representing River Hill village on the Columbia Association's governing body.

David W. Berson, a former River Hill Village Board chairman who is the only council representative that village has had, will not run for a fourth full term when Columbia-wide elections are held April 17.

"It's time for other people to step up," said Berson, who joined the council in 1993. "Six years is enough."

Berson said he plans to spend more time enjoying the community's amenities -- rather than working to improve them.

"[But] I won't disappear. I'll still go to the council meetings."

Berson has talked to several village board members and other residents about his decision, but would not say who has expressed interest in succeeding him.
