Butch Marshall scored twice in the third period and goaltender Vickum Gupta had 35 saves, including several during a late Navy flurry, to give Towson a 5-3 win over the host Midshipmen in the championship game of the Crab Pot at Dahlgren Hall.
Marshall's first goal, at 1: 32 of the third period, gave the Tigers (21-6-2) a 4-2 lead. After Navy's Phil Karg cut the lead to 4-3 at 9: 25, the Midshipmen grabbed the momentum. Towson spent four of the final six minutes short-handed, but Gupta held the one-goal lead until Marshall picked up a loose puck behind the empty net and stuffed in the clincher with 44 seconds to go.
The win marks Towson's first championship in the tournament's 22-year history. Its only other appearance in the title game ended with a loss to Eastern Michigan in 1994.
Jon Sakalas also scored twice, and Chris Wagner once for the Tigers. Andrew Lillis and Steve McIntosh had Navy's other goals, and goalie Blake Henke made 37 saves.
