Suspect in carjacking surrenders to police

A suspect in a Howard County carjacking and the rape of a Baltimore woman turned himself in to Prince George's County authorities, a spokesman said yesterday.

Larry Waymon Best, 35, of Upper Marlboro arrived at the Prince George's sheriff's department at 3 p.m., Sgt. Bill Ament said.

Howard County and Baltimore police issued warrants Wednesday, after reviewing photos taken at an automated teller machine.

Howard police say a man approached a Cockeysville woman in Columbia Jan. 27, took her vehicle at gunpoint and tried unsuccessfully to withdraw money using her ATM card.

Baltimore police said the man is a suspect in the rape at gunpoint Sunday of a 21-year-old woman who was forced to withdraw $280 from an ATM in the city.

Best told police he had been staying in area hotels, Ament said.
