Freshman Brian Burke scored a career-high 16 points to help host Lafayette hold off Navy, 74-71, in a battle last night for first place in the Patriot League.
The Leopards (16-6, 6-1) opened the game with a 20-7 run and took a comfortable, 35-20 halftime lead. But the Mids (16-6, 5-3) managed an 11-3 run early in the second half to pull within 38-31 and cut the deficit to 61-58 with 5: 14 left in the game on Jehel Lewis' three-pointer.
But Burke's free throws with 4: 51 to go gave Lafayette a five-point cushion, which it didn't lose until Navy's Chris Worthing hit a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Lewis led the Mids with 23 points.
Johns Hopkins 86, Dickinson 48: Four players scored in double figures as the Blue Jays (15-4, 6-2) rolled up their highest point total of the season to beat the visiting Red Devils (7-12, 2-6) in a Centennial Conference game. The Blue Jays have beaten Dickinson nine straight times dating to the 1974-75 season.
Joel Wertman had a game-high 18 points for Hopkins, which led 43-17 at halftime. Junior forward Nino Vanin added 15 points.
Catholic 67, St. Mary's 54: The Cardinals (15-4, 8-1) got 16 points from Mike Lepeonka to defeat the host Seahawks (10-9, 5-4) in Capital Athletic Conference action.
Brandon Jones had a game-high 22 points for the Seahawks.
Goucher 90, Salisbury State 73: Bakari Ward had a game-high 26 points and Mark Schuler added 15 as the Gophers (16-3, 8-1) coasted past the visiting Sea Gulls (9-9, 5-4) in the Capital Athletic Conference.
St. Peter's 67, Loyola 59, OT: St. Peter's rallied from 12 points down to force overtime, then made its first lead of the game hold up to turn back the host Greyhounds in a Metro Athletic Conference game at Reitz Arena.
A three-pointer by Lawanda Greene with 16 seconds remaining in regulation tied the score at 56 for the Peahens (18-3, 11-1).
Mary Anne Kirsch scored 17 to lead the Greyhounds (14-6, 7-5), but she missed a layup with three seconds left in regulation.
Navy 75, Lafayette 64: Erica Hayes had 25 points and 11 rebounds as the Midshipmen (14-7, 6-2) rolled to a 43-9 halftime lead then fought off a second-half comeback by the host Leopards (5-16, 2-5) to register the Patriot League win.
Salisbury State 103, Goucher 83: Elisabeth Barfuss scored 27 points and Lisa Neylan added 20 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks to lead the visiting Sea Gulls (13-6, 6-3) to a Capital Athletic Conference win over the Gophers (4-15, 1-8).
Dana Bollinger had 22 points, Jessica Young had 18 and Kim Rogers added 15 in a losing effort.
Shenandoah 82, Villa Julie 37: Ellie Tanner scored 18 points to lead four players in double figures as the host Hornets (4-12) easily defeated the Mustangs (7-10) in a nonconference game.
St. Mary's 79, Catholic 59: Erica Pearson (33), Felicia Harris (20) and Tenille McCatty (20) combined for 73 points to help the host Seahawks (12-6, 6-3) roll past the Cardinals (5-13, 1-8) in the Capital Athletic Conference.
Meg Hagarty scored a career-high 31 points for the Cardinals.
Western Maryland 57, Alvernia 52: Senior forward Kathi Snyder poured in a season-high 25 points on 12-for-17 shooting as the host Green Terror (15-4) posted a non-league win over the Crusaders (9-9).
