Mount Airy woman dies in Route 27 crash

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A 76-year-old Mount Airy woman, a passenger in a car driven by her husband, died yesterday afternoon when their Cadillac veered off the road and hit a utility pole.

Another passenger, one of six people in the car, was critically injured.

The woman's husband, Gail Brown Hill, 69, apparently fell asleep at the wheel, state police said. Hill was driving south on Route 27 about a half-mile north of West Falls Road in Mount Airy about 4: 15 p.m. when the accident occurred, police said.

Front-seat passenger Anita Whitfield Hill of the 900 block of Meadowgreen Drive was pronounced dead at the scene. Critically injured was Evalene Whitfield, 69, of Bethesda, who was admitted to Frederick Memorial Hospital last night.
