The Williams Construction Co. of Middle River, low bidder at $197,397.50 on the western approaches to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, failed to post bond before the deadline. The State Roads Commission can extend the deadline. -- The Sun, Jan. 3, 1949.

Maryland today agreed without reservation to buy a 675-acre tract at Sandy Point for $160,000 from William H. Labrot to develop a bay-side state park. -- The Sun, Jan. 24, 1949.

John S. Kieffer, president of St. John's College, has resigned "over administrative difficulties." Previously, he had dismissed Raymond Wilburn, dean, and Luke Poe Jr., assistant dean. Harrison Viddesog, treasurer, has also resigned. -- The Sun, Jan. 31, 1949.
