Police and Coast Guard officials are looking for a 45-year-old employee of the Coast Guard yard at Curtis Bay who disappeared from work Friday morning.
Karl Henry Hartman, a Dundalk resident who has worked at the yard for 25 years, seemed agitated and disoriented after arriving for work at 5: 30 a.m., a fellow employee said.
The disappearance is being called suspicious by Anne Arundel County police, who have been working with Baltimore and Coast Guard security police since Hartman's supervisor reported him gone at 8 a.m.
A search using police dogs and a police helicopter turned up no leads late yesterday.
The police and the Coast Guard reported that Hartman, a Vietnam veteran who is an inspector in the welding shop, seemed agitated when he arrived for work Friday and went outside to smoke. A few minutes after returning, he went outside again. Co-workers found him asleep in another building. After being awakened, Hartman still appeared disoriented and walked away from co-workers, leaving behind his wallet, keys and car, the report said.
Hartman is described as white, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 145 pounds. He was last seen wearing a gray sweat shirt. County police urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to call them at 410-222-3588 or the Coast Guard Yard Security Department at 410-636-3993.
