Health department temporarily closes 2 restaurants and store's food service


The Anne Arundel County Department of Health temporarily closed three food service establishments because of circumstances discovered during inspections between Jan. 1 and Jan. 15.

Popeye's Restaurant at Marley Station in Glen Burnie was closed for a day Jan. 6 because of a small fire.

Dunkin' Donuts at 959 Ritchie Highway and the 7-Eleven at 951 Ritchie Highway, both in Arnold, remain partly closed because of an unsatisfactory water supply discovered Jan. 7.

Health workers inspected 132 restaurants and other food service establishments during the period and found 20 with critical food safety violations that were immediately corrected.

Multiple violations were found at four establishments.

Friendly Ice Cream at 7900 Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie, Whitey's Supermarket at 803 North Hammonds Ferry Road in Linthicum and Morrison's Cafeteria at 171 Jennifer Road in Annapolis were cited for food inadequately cooked and reheated and food held at improper temperatures. Janet's Place at 401 Highland Ave. in Baltimore was cited for holding food at improper temperatures and for adulterated or spoiled food.
